The BAFTX Scholarship 2011 recipients left for their two week study program Sunday, 19th June 2011.  The excited students, Rosa, Tonya, Felipe and Robert were ready for the long flight ahead with their daily planners in hand so they could see what each day brought! They will have the opportunity to see the Houses of Parliament, the West End and this year they will get to visit the Olympic 2012 site.                                                                                 Left to right, Susan Howard BAFTX President, Tonya, Rosa, Robert and Felipe                           Wine Women and Song 2011 Lunch with the Laddies What a way to spend a Saturday afternoon !!  After the hustle and bustle of the holidays the ladies of Houston found a way to spend an afternoon full of fun just for them.   January saw our second ladies afternoon featuring Caledon Scotland's Tenors.  Held at the Marriott Hotel, West Loop, Houston over 120 ladies enjoyed being serenaded by the Tenors.                                                                    Before the main event, the afternoon began with a champagne reception with the opportunity to take a chance on the raffle and tombola.  BAFTX is delighted with the success of the event and the ladies afternoon has become an annual event on the BAFTX Calendar.  We thank our attending Sponsors, British Airways, American Airlines, Wood Group, Mr & Mrs McKillip  and RBS The Royal Bank of Scotland.  We look forward to seeing you in January 2012.                                                                                                BAFTX Brit Books   BAFTX are launching a book drive! As you may be aware BAFTX have partnered with the Yellowstone Academy awarding the 'Kids with Courage Pledge' to the school this year. Yellowstone Academy is in one of the poorest areas of Houston. We are developing a relationship with the school and encouraging the students in middle school to apply for the BAFTX 'Early Starter Scholarship'. Part of the application process is for the student to write about a 'British Person whom you most admire'.                                                  To enable the middle school students to apply, they will require the appropriate reading materials in their school library.  Please let us have any slightly used or new books suitable for this project. A bookstore gift token or cash/check would also be acceptable! (Payable to BAFTX and noted Book Drive) We would like to get the books to the school prior to Thanks Giving. BAFTX were chosen winners at the British American Business Council, Houston International Business Awards (BABC Houston) Luncheon on 21 Thursday 2010.  The lunch, held at the Hilton Hotel, Post Oak, Houston, was sponsored by Continental Airlines.
